What is menstruation?Menstruation or the Monthly cycle is a natural process occurring in women/adolescent girls and brings about many significant changes. Girls may experience their first period/monthly cycle between the ages of 9-16 years. Every woman’s menstrual cycle is not the same. The average menstrual cycle is about 1 month long, add or subtract 3-4 days. Most women bleed for 3- 4 days during their monthly cycle/ period. The day the bleeding starts can be considered as the first day of the menstrual cycle and the onset of the next cycle date can be estimated from this. The menstrual cycle may be irregular in the initial months, but for most women, this cycle becomes regular as they grow older.
