The Toxic Cost of Our Food (w/ Jeannie Economos of the Farmworker Association of Florida)

Lee Perry (Chief Operations Officer of IDEAS For Us) sits down with Jeannie Economos of the Farmworker Association of Florida to discuss the complex issue of our industrial agriculture system. The state of Florida is home to thousands of farmworkers, here from Central and South America, for the most part. In addition to the likelihood of them being victims of human trafficking, they earn little to no pay and have been exposed to deadly toxins in the form of pesticides. Jeannie serves the needs of farmworkers in the Lake Apopka region of Central Florida. She is an avid and vocal activist for the human rights of farmworkers in Florida and across the nation.  We must be more conscious and aware of the real cost of having easy access to such a grand abundance of food. The price is real human lives, severely impacted by the scale and demand of our agricultural system. We must work to advocate for these people's lives and eventually shift our food production to a more sustainable model, like our program Fleet Farming.
