In 2017 Viola Davis reprised her Lead Actress Tony winning role in the film adaption of Fences and won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars. I’m sorry if that phrasing was confusing but many people argued that Davis’ win was category fraud. This is not uncommon at the Oscars. As far as I’m concerned Meryl Streep was a supporting character in The Devil Wears Prada but I don’t made up the rules. Her fellow nominees were Naomi Harris for Moonlight, Nicole Kidman and her Annie wig for Lion, Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures, and Michelle Williams for Manchester by the Sea.
