Ep. 14 - 2002 Halle Berry
In 2002 Halle Berry became the first woman of colour to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. To this day, Berry remains the only black woman to do so. In the 92 year history of the ceremony there have only been 12 nominations for black women in a lead category. That means that of all the lead actress nominations, less than 3% of the nominees have been black. Yikes. Other nominees that year included Renée Zellweger for Bridget Jones’s Diary, Sissy Spacek for In the Bedroom, Judi Dench for Iris, and Nicole Kidman for Moulin Rouge! Who do you think should have won? Join host Kyle Brownrigg with guest host Arianne Tong as they discuss this historic Oscar win.
