Episode 189 - Learning in the Storms of Life
This episode of Living Myth begins with the idea that there are times when life itself is the great teacher, and rushing ahead without a genuine vision can mean failing to find the right course, and not learning important lessons that life is trying to teach us. That leads to a consideration of two levels of education: a basic education that can give a person some grounding and a way to “make a life” and the deeper levels of learning that can reveal inner aptitudes and gifts and help awaken the inner nobility and true nature of students. Michael Meade uses an old teaching story to depict how when the seas of change are churning, and the storms of life are intensifying, it is the deeper level of education that can reorient teachers and parents as well as students. When the common systems become overwhelmed, and everything is thrown off course, it is the natural buoyancy of the soul, with its fluid capacity to change, and the radical resiliency of human genius that can set the new course and bring deeper levels of learning to everyone involved.
