I can not tell you how often I have heard a student or grown adult say, “My counselor told me I could not.” UGH! The thought of counselors everywhere dashing the dreams of teens makes me nuts. Trust me, none of us mean to do it. What some of you may not know is that the recommended student to counselor ratio is 250:1. Our national average is nearly double that. While 21 states have an average UNDER 400, 6 states have an average that exceeds 600. All the others lie somewhere in between.
