The trope of the woman who can't stop shopping is so relatable that Sophie Kinsella's "Shopaholic" series, which debuted in 2000, is now nine books deep. For Rebecca Bloomwood, the original Shopoholic, and real women like her, shopping might be a social activity, a mood-booster, a stress reliever, or a mindless distraction. In most cases, casual shopping doesn't lead to compulsive shopping: Only about six percent of Americans display that behavior—but of that six percent, 80 percent are women. Here's one woman's story.
