Shamir burst into the national spotlight in 2015 with the upbeat dance single "On the Regular." Since then, the Las Vegas-based singer, musician and actor has taken his sound back to his roots - writing songs on the guitar. On his new album "Resolution," Shamir is making raw, vulnerable indie rock that shakes a body down to the ground with its poignant social commentary on topics like police brutality, racial and social inequality and mental health. Jill Hopkins spoke with Shamir about his career, the new album and his pivot back to indie rock.
