Calid B celebrates the African diaspora and channels Malian folklore on new album "AfroBang 2"
Calid B. is a Chicago based producer and MC who is pioneering his own brand of eclectic Hip Hop sound which he calls "AfroBang." AfroBang fuses together elements of trap drums, synths and 808s with tribal percussion and chants from West Africa. On his new release "AfroBang 2: Son of Sogolon" Calid continues to celebrate the African diaspora and channels Malian folklore - the story of Sundiata Keita who became the founder of the Mali Empire. Jesse Menendez spoke with Calid B about the record and its eclectic sound that stems from his heritage.
