Ep.11 - Lucy and Saul chat about the upsurge in #GrowYourOwn during the current crisis, and discuss how realistic self sufficiency is...

Lucy and Saul are fully aware that the world has taken a monumental shift - the Coronavirus outbreak has left our little bit of the world in Horticulture reeling both personally and professionally. So we both decided that instead of our longer format episodes every 3 weeks or so - we going to record shorter podcasts, through the week, to bring you a slice of our lives at East Donyland Hall and Stonelands and beyond - trying to bring a little bit of spring and sunshine to your eardrums.

In this episode Lucy and Saul have a chat about the recent upsurge in Grow Your Own as households up and down the UK turn to there back gardens, balconies and windowsills to grow their own fruit and veg while the perceived threats in food security concern them. The pair have a frank discussion on whether self sufficiency is actually achievable and what beginners to the world of growing there own fruit and veg should think about and be prepared for when trying out this most satisfying form of Horticulture.

After mentioning about the crisis that many areas of Horticulture is going through in the last podcast, a report made by the BBC featuring the HTA (Horticultural Trades Association) and Alan Titchmarsh was published yesterday - it shows that just at the start of the short Gardening trade season in the UK many nurseries and growers are struggling to find outlets for their plants and many are in dire financial trouble.
