67: The A to Z of ghosts and monsters of India, with Rakesh Khanna
A witch with a beak eats a girl’s brain, a gibbon-like monster shrinks when a person looks at its feet, a boulder demon seduces women — India’s folklores are limitless and have a long history. Folk tales vary across Lakshadweep, Kashmir and Mizoram and travel between religions. Some of them are told to scare naughty children, a few are veiled attempts to talk about desire and others explain how the hills came into existence. In this episode, Sandip Roy talks to Rakesh Khanna, the founder of Blaft Publications, about his new book which is an encyclopedia of ‘Ghosts, Monsters and Demons of India’.
