Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

We love this movie! So much that we talk about it for almost an hour! (mp3 file) Join us in a conversation about Dibakar Banerjee's latest in which we discuss: detectives in Hindi films book adaptations Calcutta on film distributing Uttam Kumar-ness in a 2015 film the unibrow femme fatales white character actors who know what they're doing the soundtrack outsiders and emotional experiences of place rewarding thoughtful viewers signs of the hand of Aditya Chopra "Bengalis may hate us for this, but..." and "My mommy doesn't make it like this! Boo!" the finer points of the problematic-ness of the ending in Dibakar We Trust, because he does things for reasons other than box office and cleavage not being able to predict what he will do next, though that does not stop us from having opinions on the matter, especially since he's working with Yash Raj Films And a warning: we do discuss aspects of the film's final 15 minutes; we try to say "Spoiler! Spoiler!" in situ but make no promises.Aside on Bengali detective movies: since recording this episode, Beth has actually seen the Rituparno Ghosh adaptation of a Bakshy story, Satyanweshi, starring Sujoy Ghosh, and she liked it, even more than the 2011 Abar Byomkesh starring Abir Chatterjee. She did not like the newest Feluda, Badshahi Angti, which also stars Abir Chatterjee.
