Day 7 - Issue 27

Romans 10:17 NLT

'So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.'

Faith is a journey of discovery which began formally for me aged 19, when I became a Christian. On reflection I can discern many seeds sown before that time; I had an intrinsic interest in mystery, life’s meaning and an inner compulsion to explore who I was. So when I heard an invitation to explore the Christian way, I accepted and began a journey. Initially this was ‘me’ centred as I tried to accommodate my new-found faith to my own chosen lifestyle. There were many struggles as I slowly discovered faith was more to do with me yielding to and placing confidence in God, than God accommodating me.

Over time I realised God had permanence while I was mortal, finite and the one in need of shaping. Letting go of pride proved a long battle. Slowly I discovered God had no desire to eradicate me, but to move me beyond my own felt needs and wants to finding that I was in fact one with God (Galatians 2:20).

Slowly the message of faith that had provoked me to journey after God took greater shape. I discovered not only the meaning for my journey but also found the eyes to see something beyond myself. Now I had to exercise responsibility to listen closely to the heartbeat of God in his word. Formulaic Christianity was no longer an option. I had to accept the challenge of pursuing God in faith. I knew I had to focus all of my energies in seeking God while also discovering a hunger I’d not known in my Christian life to date.

QUESTION: In what areas of your life are you actively putting your faith in Christ?

PRAYER: Thank you that someone spoke the word about Christ to me and that you gave faith to believe and accept that word.
