Episode 18 - Managing OCD in a Covid Prison - A True, but Surreal Story
This week’s episode is all about a horrible, but fascinating experience that I had with Covid 19 earlier this month. Whilst on holiday in the North of Spain, my friend came down with the virus and the local authorities locked us all down in what was effectively a Covid Prison. We were in separate rooms and were delivered a box with our food three times a day and that was it. We were told that we would be there for two weeks and that we should just accept it. As you may expect, it was a huge challenge for me to manage OCD in this situation, because not only had my liberty been taken away, but also, I was now surrounded by people with Covid 19. Having tested negative for it, I really didn´t want to catch it whilst there. So this episode is all about how you can manage fears surrounding Covid 19 and still get on positively with your life, despite your worries and obsessions about it. By applying techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and focusing on taking positive action, I was able to manage what could have quite easily become a very negative experience. I hope that you might be able to gain some insight from my experience and hopefully apply it to the day to day worries that we all have whilst living through a pandemic.
