Episode 117: BSWC Event Part 3, Sex Work and Feminism Vs. Patriarchy
Today is the third episode in our 5-show series produced in collaboration with *The Black Sex Worker Collective* ( https://www.blacksexworkercollective.org/ ). *On July 22nd, the collective will host a 22-hour event called* *Who’s Allowed To Make Money? Workers In Solidarity* ( https://www.eventbrite.com/o/the-black-sex-worker-collective-30400735870 ) , to support sex workers and other freelance artists directly impacted by COVID-19. As of June 18th, each weekly episode up until the event will feature some of the many performers and activists who are scheduled. You can catch up on this series, and all of our episodes, at anytime on *sexcompod.com* ( http://www.sexcompod.com/ ). This show is about destroying the stigma of sex, and the fact of sex workers facing discrimination, prosecution and an absence of basic labor rights, is a demonstration of this stigma. It is my hope, that with every episode in this series, you, the listener, become more informed, compassionate, and inspired to take supportive action. In today’s show, I speak with Arabella Allure, a burlesque performer, advocate, and event organizer. Arabella and Salty Bisch Creations will be presenting a performance showcase of the top BIPOC Artists from Western Canada ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/salty-bisch-creations-the-patio-below-whos-allowed-to-make-money-tickets-110577420040 ). Like our last guest, Arabella is also originally from Australia, though now based in Calgary Canada. We discuss the challenges and benefits of stripping, along with how engaging in sex work challenges cultural patriarchy. *Event information: * *Tickets / Info: Black Sex Workers Collective 22-Hour Fundraiser Event* ( https://www.eventbrite.com/o/the-black-sex-worker-collective-30400735870 ) * * *Tickets to Arabella's Event: Salty Bisch Creations — The Patio Below; BIPOC Performer Showcase* ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/salty-bisch-creations-the-patio-below-whos-allowed-to-make-money-tickets-110577420040 ) * General information: * *The Black Sex Worker Collective* ( https://www.blacksexworkercollective.org/ ) Some information about the fight for Sex Worker rights: https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/05/04/sex-workers-struggle-survive-covid-19-pandemic https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/08/07/why-sex-work-should-be-decriminalized * * *More information about today's guest: Arabella Allure:* *Instagram* ( https://www.instagram.com/arabellaallure/ ) */* *Twitter* ( https://twitter.com/bluebelleburlq?lang=en ) * Salty Bisch Creations:* *Facebook* ( https://www.facebook.com/saltybischcreations ) */* *Instagram* ( https://www.instagram.com/saltybischcreations/?hl=en ) */* *Twitter* ( https://twitter.com/bischsalty?lang=en ) Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/sex-communication/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy a Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
