On 26th November 2019, The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019 was passed in the Rajya Sabha was passed with 70 yes votes and 55 no votes ignoring the protests by the transgender community and the demand by several opposition members to send the bill to a select committee.
