In the summer of 1974, a war was brewing between Kay Hoyt Hein and her married lover, Harold Nokes. After she called off their affair, Harold lashed out. He poisoned her lawn. Poured sugar in her gas tank. He even wrote lewd graffiti messages about her sexual activity with other men.
