“A Pink Collar Recession” - Gender Inequality a COVID - 19

The economic and social fallout from the COVID 19 outbreak is still unclear, and the shape in which the global economy is impacted is a continually developing story.  Early indications suggest, that unlike the financial crash of 2008, which predominantly affected “blue-collar, middle-aged, male workers” in industries such as manufacturing and construction, the fallout from COVID 19 is likely to most impact industries that are female-dominated. A growing concern is that will create a much greater knock-on effect than short to medium term unemployment of millions of woman that we are currently seeing.  Episode 28 of Viral COVID -19 looks at the issue of enhanced gender inequality because of the pandemic. Host Ian Doyle is joined by Celina Ribeiro, a freelance journalist who writes for The Guardian to speak about the prospect of a “Pink Collard Recession” in the years following COVID 19 . Later in the podcast, Orla O’Connor - Director of The National Women’s Council of Ireland discusses what social infrastructure is needed for Ireland to create a more sustainable landscape for women returning to work.  Produced by UrbanMedia Hosted by Ian Doyle Music by Psykick   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
