#25 CoQ10 for slowing down the aging process
It’s not a mainstream ingredient in skincare… because it’s been around forever. It’s not new, it’s not sexy. But Co enzyme Q10 or CoQ10 has some good data behind… It slows down aging due to time a aging due to sun exposure… Let’s find what there is to know about itWanted to give you a quick update on Open Formula… our club where members will get clinical skincare starting at #3. We’ve been in stealth mode for the most part… The team is working really hard to put all the pieces together. Focused on building our web platform. Just had 100,000 products delivered to the warehouse. Haven’t really talked to anyone about this - no press, no bloggers, no influencers. Yet, somehow 11,000 are on the wait list… I am flattered and humbled. And I’m super excited! So… CoQ10… Your body actually makes a bunch of CoQ10. It’s almost everywhere in your body. It’s an antioxidant. So it fights the bad guys.. free radicals which come from sun and pollution and beat up your skin cells making your skin blotchy and wrinklyCoQ10 is also responsible for you to make energy. It was discovered some 60 years ago. There are tons of research when it comes to CoQ10 helping with major diseases like cancer and heart disease. In skincare - it helps a lot with sun protection - basically slowing down aging due to UV radiation. And yes, you do get radiation from being out in the sun. CoQ10 also slows down skin aging due to just time, because we do get older… and our skin does not look as good.CoQ10 helps with skin texture.. After the early 20’s, the amount of CoQ10 in the body goes down. And if you’re stressed or sick, you lose even more. Scientists tell us that this makes your skin less firm and elastic. The good news - you can replenish CoQ10 with topical products. There was a study done 10 years ago.. It tested at 0.3%. And it showed that it reduced wrinkles. It was effective in reducing damage from UVA - the sun rays that penetrate deeper in the skin that are responsible more for the aging of the skin (vs. the UVB that are responsible more for the burning). The study was done over half a year so this is not a QUICK FIX. But a good thing to have in your regimen on an ongoing basis. There was also a more recent study done in 2017 that showed taking CoQ10 as a supplement helped reduce wrinkles and lines, and improved skin smoothness. I’m a big fan of using ingredients that nature already put in our bodies. Like CoQ10, Vitamin C, etc. So add it to your skincare routine. That’s it for CoQ10. And that’s it for today.
