I strongly recommend reading the book of Hosea in the Old Testament, the parallels between ancient Israel and today's society are striking. Passages from the book of Hosea that I found pertinent: 4:1-14, 6:6, 7:14-16, 8:1-5, 8:7, 8:13-14, 9:7-9, 9:16-17, 11:5, 12:2,6,14, 13:2,4,9, 14:1-3, 14:10 Don't let the amount of chapters get to you, the book is between 6-8 pages.
